Description
An Anhinga, dries its wings in the sun after swimming for supper. The word anhinga is derived from the Indigenous Tupi language of Brazil, a’ñinga, and translates as “devil bird” or “snake bird”. The name comes from the bird’s appearance when swimming, as only its neck shows above water, resembling a snake ready to strike. They do not have external nostrils, breathing solely through their epiglottis.
